Using Specialised Marine Services

We will always co-operate with the Master and owner, assisting in every possible way, to ensure a safe and successful completion.

The MetWorks Special Service is designed for use by offshore marine operations, towage and other marine undertakings other than by conventional vessels on oceanic crossings. The service provides essential information for the customer to take full advantage of the weather conditions appropriate to the success of the venture. The service is ideal for marine survey work where time can be wasted and machinery damaged or lost by unexpected changes in the weather or sea conditions.

The Full Routeing service is recommended for vessels undertaking full oceanic crossing at normal speed.
The Fast Track service is suggested for high speed scheduled vessels on trans-oceanic passages.
Our Yacht Services are suggested for luxury craft and coastal passages. Using Yacht Services

Detailed forecasts can be supplied for up to five days in advance for a specific area or track along with appropriate recommendations to suit the requirements of the customer.
Each message will consist of the following details :

  • Any suitable recommendations, from the team, which may facilitate the projects progress.
  • A fully detailed Synoptic Situation, in text format. This will describe all the weather systems in the area and their expected movement over the next 24/48 hours.
  • Wind direction and speed (Beaufort) for each day throughout the next five days.
  • Significant sea heights (combination of sea and swell waves) for each of the next five days.
  • Swell conditions and direction for each of the five days
  • Full details of all tropical cyclones, ice limits and any other significant features which may affect the passage. The vessel/area will be closely monitored throughout the operation and should the conditions exceed any pre-determined values, notification will be transmitted immediately.

PRIOR to DEPARTURE

In order to provide a dependable service we request that the Master or operater provides MetWorks with the appropriate information concerning the requirements for the proposed operation.

  • The limiting weather conditions that may be imposed for operational or insurance reasons.
  • Details of the proposed project, so that we may better understand the requirements.
  • The earliest or latest time that the undertaking needs to commence.
  • Any other significant information which may assist us in offering appropriate advice.

This information will enable MetWorks to identify a suitable 'weather window' for the operation to commence and to advise, soonest, when the operator may need to take to take action or delay the work due to expected adverse weather conditions.

DURING the OPERATION

To ensure the best possible service we request that the Master or operations manager keep MetWorks closely advised with the following information :

  • The DAILY position in UTC if re-locating, together with wind and seas experienced, and any other significant weather factors.
  • Any significant changes in speed, route plan or destination due to operational requirements.

Every 48 hours MetWorks will provide full marine weather forecasts for up to five days ahead, along the vessels expected track. These are provided routinely, however more frequent forecasts will be provided in severe or storm conditions, or if there is any significant change in the circumstances.
