Full Weather Routeing

We will always co-operate with the Master and owner, assisting in every possible way, to ensure a safe and economical passage.

The MetWorks FULL ship routeing service provides comprehensive weather forecasts and advice on the optimum route throughout the passage. Practical recommendations for the safest and most economical voyage are provided by our team of experienced Master Mariners and forecasters, using the latest data supplied by the UK Meteorological Office.

The Full weather routeing service is recommended for slower speed ships which may not fully benefit from the extended type of forecast used for our Fast Track service.

The Fast Track service is suggested for high speed scheduled vessels on trans-oceanic passages.

When providing the service, MetWorks use the latest ship performance curves, (for that particular type & size of the vessel). These are plotted against the current weather information, to predict the vessels position up to five days in advance. These positions are used to determine the expected weather conditions for each of the five days ahead.

Every 48 hours MetWorks will provide full marine weather forecasts for up to five days ahead, along the vessels expected track. These are provided routinely, however more frequent forecasts will be provided in severe or storm conditions, or if there is any significant change in the circumstances.

Each message will consist of the following details :

• Any suitable recommendations, from the team, which may facilitate the passage safely and economically.
• A fully detailed Synoptic Situation, in text format. This will describe all the weather systems in the area and their expected movement over the next 24/48 hours.
• Wind direction and speed (Beaufort) for each day throughout the next five days.
• Significant sea heights (combination of sea and swell waves) for each of the next five days.
• Swell conditions and direction for each of the five days
• Full details of all tropical cyclones, ice limits and any other significant features which may affect the passage.

Many major shipping companies are using the full ship routeing service very successfully. They have found this to be a cost effective way of providing regular and consistent weather information and advice to the shipmaster.

The Master is then in a position to make well informed decisions about the most economical and safest passage. Masters are able to receive consistent and accurate weather updates every 48 hours and also at other times when they are most required. This is one of the many advantages of receiving weather routeing services from ex Master Mariners who are aware of the shipmasters responsibilities and can relate to the problems and decisions that may have to be made.
